In the turmoil following the deaths of Robert Baratheon and Eddard Stark war has broken out across Westeros. The Riverlands in particular are in chaos.

Balon Greyjoy has declared himself king of the Iron Islands and unleashed his reavers on the mainland. The ships of House Harlaw landed in Ironman's Bay where they were met and repelled outside the walls of Seagard by the forces of House Mallister.

Asha Greyjoy, Balon's daughter, led her men North looking to gain some measure of revenge for the deaths of her two older brothers. She was not expecting to run into a band of wildlings who had sailed south on a half-derelict ship, fetching up on the shores of Flint's Finger, and looking to get "as far south as south goes". Their first encounter with the southerners did not go well for either party, as the wildlings were scattered and the Greyjoys were forced to wait for their revenge.

The Night's Watch were not willing to stand idle while their defences were circumvented in this manner. The Lord Commander sent a large ranging party south in pursuit,  led by his steward, Jon Snow. Unfortunately Roose Bolton interpreted this action as a territorial claim by the Watch and intercepted them to the northwest of the Dreadfort. The Watch's territorial ambitions were duly curtailed, or so Lord Bolton reported to his liege.

Tion the Red, last scion of House Tarbeck, has returned home and is looking to reclaim his ancestral seat. This did not go unnoticed by his erstwhile liege-lords, the Lannisters, who sent a force to intercept him. Unfortunately Ser Kevan Lannister is not the commander that his brother is, and their forces were scattered in short order. It seems certain that this matter is not over, Lord Tion's need for vengeance is as fresh as ever and Lord Tywin does not forgive a slight of this nature.

At the same time, ships belonging to House Manderley set sail from White Harbor in an attempt to prevent the forces of Daenarys Targaryen from leaving Essos. They were unsuccessful, and the Targaryens landed in Westeros where they were warmly welcomed by the Conningtons of Griffin's Roost.

In the south, forces loyal to King Renley Baratheon are making their way slowly from the Reach into the Stormlands. Behind them, the fragile peace between Dorne and the Reach was shattered as the forces of House Uller made their way through the Boneway and attacked Grassy Vale, the seat of House Meadows. House Tyrell were not prepared to ignore this slight and sent a force under the command of Ser Garlan to repel the invaders but wrre unsuccesful. Ser Garlan was almost killed in the process and Grassy Vale fell to the attackers.

Folliwing the death of his brother, Renly, King Stannis assembled a fleet of ships larger than any seen outside of the Iron Islandsand set sail from Dragonstone to attack Kings Landing, intending to end the war anc vlaim the throne for himself. He did not account for the cunning of the Imp, Tyrion Lannister, and most of his ships were lost before making landfall. The survivors fought their way from the banks of the Blackwater, attempting to breach the Mud Gate and take the city, but were repulsed by the Lannisters' defending army. Stannis was forced to retreat, and thete was much rejoicing in the streets of Kings Landing.

Attempting to avoid pursuit, Stannis' surviving ships turned north and made landfall near Gulltown. Lady Lyssa interpreted this as an attack on the Vale and sent forth her knights to repel the invaders. Stannis was forced to retreat once more.

South of Kings Landing a chance encounter between the forces of House Uller and House Targaryen turned bloody. Faced with a horde of rampaging Dothraki horse-lords led by a dragon House Uller's archers proved decisive, riving ofv the beast and mortally wounding it's rider in the process. House Lannister has yet another reason to celebrate, as Queen Daenarys died of her wounds removing another claimant to King Joffrey's throne. Yet rumours persist of another Targaryen claimant to the throne.

Lady Arryn, startled out of her isolationist stance by Stannis' "attack" sent her knights forth from the Vale. Travelling up the Kings Road they fell upon and routed a force from House Manderley, sending them fleeing back towards White Harbour.

The forces of House Bolton, fresh from their "disciplinary action" against the errant Night's Watch, set out in pursuit of the wildlings, routing them and killing their leader, Tormund Giantsbane. It seems unlikely that this will be the end of Mance Rayder's plans however and there are many more chieftains north of the wall.

Those Night's Watch however, fell afoul of the forces of House Mallister as they continued their pursuit of the wildlings. Once again, the Watch were driven off.

House Tyrell are in disarray, having tied their fate to not one but two failed claimants to the throne. Taking advantage of their confusion, House Tarbeck attempted to sieze land in the Reach for themselves. In the midst of an inconclusive struggle, Ser Garlan Tyrell was wounded once more, this time more seriously than before. Though he will return, House Tyrell will have to do without his leadership for the time being.

On the Stony Shore, discipline has collapsed among the Ironborn. What should have been a simple raid by the forces of Houses Greyjoy and Harlaw collapsed as a squabble over loot broke out into full-scale hostilities. Despite the casualties it seems unlikely that this will disrupt King Balon's hold on the Iron Islands, as disagreements like this are commonplace among the islanders.
