Title: Gaslands Campaign With Poll
Post by: Rob Farley on March 21, 2018, 10:12:42 pm
Well, this seems inevitable so let's start talking about it. ;D

Who would be interested in taking part? And what kind of campaign would you be interested in?
1) A series of standard, 50-point games where we just keep track of players' winning records. This would include a mix of scenarios, not just Death Races.
2) As above but escalating points values. So 50 points for the first game, 60 for the second, and so on up to a 100 point finale.
3) A full-fledged campaign using the rules from Miniature Wargames (rules attached). This includes vehicle damage, winnings and so on but is more complicated and involves some book-keeping.

So? Any thoughts?

Sign me up. Happy to play any but I'd suggest going for option 1 or 2 to keep things simple (I'd prefer 2).

So, that's one vote for option 2 and one vote for not option 2. ::) :-\

I vote not option 2 too.

I too, would vote with Carl, not to see him in a twotoo (tutu).
One would vote for one if one won one once in ones campaign.
Stopping now, count me in !

Added a poll to get people's opinions and to save me from having to count things.

Poundland - £2 for 5 cars! They are held together by screws, not riveted, so easy to dismantle for modifications.

I think I've found my next modelling project.

Right then, decision made (sort of). I'm going with option 3, by virtue of the fact that nobody voted for "not option 3". We don't have a campaign on the 2nd Monday so we can go with that, starting on June 11th.

I'd like to get a list of everyone who actually wants to take part so let me know. You'll need a 50 can team to start with, although it may grow (or shrink) as the campaign goes on. If you don't have vehicles I'm sure someone can be persuaded to loan some out, but the benefits you get in the campaign for having converted and/or painted vehicles will only apply if they're your own. :P

The televised event schedule will be as follows:
June 18th: Death Race
July 9th: Zombie Bash
August 13th: Death Race
September 10th: Capture the Flag
October 8th: Death Race
November 12th: Saturday Night Live

Note that the nature of the campaign means that if you miss the campaign night, there won't be an option to catch up on the televised event. But people can fit in as many wasteland skirmishes as they want in between the televised events, and there are balancing factors in the campaign to keep everything competitive.

I'll put together some updated roster sheets and dashboards to allow people to track the extra information for their vehicles (dents, injuries etc) I'll post them here once they're done. Also check out the Gaslands downloads page (https://gaslands.com/downloads) for the FAQ and other bits.

I think that's everything. If you've got any questions, ask.

I've put together a campaign roster for people to use, it covers all the new details necessary. It's enough for 4 vehicles, the campaign maximum is 8 vehicles per team so worst case you may need two sheets. After looking through things again I've realised that there's no need for new dashboards, the existing ones will work fine.

As far as I know, the following people are signed up for the campaign. If I've missed anyone, let me know:
Me
Mike
Tom
Dan
Chris
Andy M
Adrian
Dave

18th June - was agreed to swap with Pikeman's Lament, because of some obscure football event.

First game was moved because Grahame wants to watch the world cup. Or something like that. I probably should have paid more attention. ???

Answers to a few questions that have come up.

1) Vehicles do not have to be completely WYSIWYG, so long as they're representative and you're clear with your opponents before the game. e.g. Some cars could pass as performance cars or trucks, just be clear about what's what and you're fine.
2) Same goes for weapons. Not everything has to be represented on the vehicles and we're fine with "counts as" so long as it's made clear.
3) Vehicles only have to roll once per game on the wrecked vehicle table no matter how many times they're wrecked, and only if they're wrecked at the end of the game. This saves us from having to keep track of which vehicles have re-spawned and how often.
4) The rules for interrupted final positions apply even if the obstacle the obstacle is one that your vehicle would normally ignore. Basically, you should never finish your move on top of an obstruction or another vehicle.
5) The FAQ says that you need your opponent's permission to fit a turret-mounted ram. You have permission.

At the end of each game I'll need to know the result, each team's updated rating and the number of audience votes earned. That means the total number of votes, not just the number unspent at the end (so don't be afraid to use them).

Updated list of participants, based on everyone who's actually got back to me. Still room for more, just let me know. Doesn't matter if you have your own vehicles or not, we can accommodate you.

Me
Mike
Dan
Chris
Adrian
Dave
Mark

And before anyone asks, the reason I keep banging on about numbers is that I just need to make sure we have enough gates, skid dice, templates, tokens etc. to support the number of games we'll be playing. As we saw last night, sharing templates across tables is a pain.

As a note, I have 3D files for templates - if anyone wants a 3D printed set let me know and I'll work out a price.

I am trying to choose a team sponsor for the campaign, but I am a little confused about the Miyazaki Perk 'Showing Off'
The rule book states that ALL cars in the team have to resolve a Shift, a Slide, a Spin, and not wipeout, within a single Gear phase.
Does this mean that each car has to all 3 of those things without wiping out, or that each car must do at least one of them?
E.g. In a 2 Car Team, during Gear phase 2, Car 1 does a Shift Up to gear 3, and suffers from a spin result, but no Slide, and Car 2 just does a Shift up to Gear 4, without Sliding or Spinning.
Will the team receive 2 audience votes, or none?

I think probably none, but what do I know? ;)

Every car has to do all 3 things in order to get the bonus. It's tricky to pull off, but you get the chance every gear phase so with a bit of luck you can really rack up some votes.

It's obviously easier if you have fewer vehicles, and the single Miyazaki hyper-car approach is one option. But the injury rules in this campaign may make that less than ideal.

You can absolutely join in. Tom's joining us on Monday after missing the first round, so you'll have company. You'll need a standard 50-can team, which will only put you 3 points off the last place teams so you can definitely catch up.
